Marleny M. Bonnycastle is an Associate Professor at the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Social Work in Winnipeg. Before she moved to Winnipeg, she was an assistant professor at the Northern Social Work Program in Thompson, Manitoba for five years. She has international and Canadian experience in teaching and developing research with marginalized groups, northern communities, Indigenous people, women, youth, immigrants and refugees. Particularly her research is focused on community development, community social work practice, homelessness and housing instability, FASD, violence against women and housing, and female post-secondary students. In her work, she employs different research methods including community-based participatory research, feminist perspectives, anti-oppressive social work practices, and qualitative and visual research methods such as Photovoice and community cafes.
